However, at the end of the film, with Batman declared dead, Gordon sees a restored Bat-Signal, providing hope that Batman has survived. ![]() The rusted remains of the destroyed Bat-Signal are still atop police headquarters. At the end of the film, after reluctantly agreeing to let Batman take the blame for the murders committed by Harvey Dent in order to preserve Dent's image as Gotham's hero, Gordon hesitantly destroys the signal using an axe in front of various members of the police force and the press. The signal proves to be very effective, with drug dealers and criminals becoming apprehensive at its very appearance. Gordon uses the Bat-Signal to remind Gotham of Batman's presence. At the end of the film, the Bat-Signal appears, as a searchlight that projects the shape of a bat, installed atop police headquarters as a means to contact Batman. Lieutenant Gordon then notices, that Falcone's shadow is projected into the clouds of the night sky, similar to the silhouette of a bat. Lieutenant James Gordon finds the mobster Carmine Falcone strapped on to a searchlight in the docks of Gotham City, for the Gotham Police force to arrest him, left by Batman. Poison Ivy alters the Bat-Signal by changing it to a "Robin-Signal" to lure Robin into a trap. Batman is slightly peeved at her usage of the Bat-Signal as a mere "beeper". Chase Meridian uses the Bat-Signal to call Batman, in order to seduce him. The source of the signal projection is never shown. The signal is used when Commissioner Gordon needs Batman's help when the Red Triangle Circus Gang attacks the city during Christmas and appears again at the end of the film after Batman proved his innocence and regained his popularity as a surviving Catwoman proudly looks on. Batman gives the signal to the police as a gift so that they can summon him when he is needed, after he defeats the Joker.īatman has mirrors stationed atop Wayne Manor that reflect the Bat-Signal through his window, alerting him to its presence in the night sky.

The test mule was Tim Stanners and his 150 Series Prado, which we fitted with a set of Xray Vision 220 HID driving lights and a 1200mm Xray Vision Quad Optic Linear Driving Light which was mounted on the vehicle’s roof rack. Hey, what else would you rather be doing at 3am! It is safe to say that what we have come up with is the ultimate four-wheel drive lighting solution – as you can see in this image. Lightforce 20 Inch Light Barįor a laugh (yes, we have a sick sense of humour) we decided while we were out in the field it would be a good idea to experiment with a few driving light variants. If you are interested in purchasing a set of round LED driving lights, check out the whole article in Issue #22 of Unsealed 4X4. The lab results for the light we declared the overall winner in our round LED driving light comparison also set a benchmark. They did drop off in terms of long-distance performance when compared to HID driving lights, but we must conclude that round LED driving lights offer more punch than light bars (however, light bars fill the gaps beautifully). Basically, these lights were unbearable to look at when in close proximity. We decided to use figures from the light we crowned the winner of our round LED driving light comparison, which was the LightForce 215 LED. However, as we discovered, round LED driving lights certainly have advantages too. 20in light bars as tested are easy to fit to the majority of vehicles – meaning (in terms of bang-for-buck) money and time wise they make sense for the majority of motorists logistically. LED light bars seem to fill every available nook and cranny possible. One thing that surprised us during the real world testing of LED light bars was the amount of spread or coverage they offered. This allowed us to compare the stats, and judge the effectiveness of HID lights in a controlled environment. These lights were a set of LightForce Genesis 50W HID driving lights, and a set of Xray Vision 220 HIDs. We always knew HIDs had the advantage for long-distance touring, but now we have proven it! FIELD TEST RESULTSĪgain, we took two sets of HID driving lights to LED Lab for a case study. When looking at the Lux figures from the real world test, HID nearly doubled the long-range performance of halogen driving lights. HIDs are king if you are chasing pure distance from your driving lights. ![]() ![]() The long-range performance offered by HID driving lights has always been legendary, and our testing absolutely confirms this. This is not a comparison more a case study to draw data from. ![]() We also took a pair of LightForce Genesis 210mm and two Xray Vision 220 Halogen driving lights. We took two sets of halogen driving lights to LED Lab in Castle Hill (which has done all of our scientific testing). We see a purpose for halogen driving lights for those on a budget, or for those who travel regularly in dusty or foggy conditions (as a yellow beam reportedly works better in those conditions). As expected, the light produced was yellow in appearance and, if I’m honest, was somewhat underwhelming. It must be said, after testing multiple LED driving lights and light bars over the past year, it was a real shock to the system to fire up a pair of halogens. Essentially, this is a Catch-22… as you want to protect your lights, but considering fitting the covers will knock back (on average) 100 lumens at 1m, you have to question the value of fitting them when the lights are in use. And it is easy to see why: Instead of pushing the light produced out, the cover traps some and reflects it back to the source. From our testing with LED, HID and Halogen driving lights, the figure (while not massive) was notable. Now this is an interesting topic, but we found the supplied lens covers many driving light manufacturers offer either with the lights or as optional extras actually rob you of performance. But with years of technological advancements under the belt of LED development, has the gap been reduced? Well we decided it was about time to find out… once and for all! Traditionally, the view was that LEDs are only good for close-distance performance and lacked long-distance punch. While LEDs have been around for longer than unleaded petrol, their use in automotive driving lights has only become mainstream in the last few years. There was room for improvement, basically. But as always, there was a catch – annoying ballast warm-up time, and the purchase price being out of reach for many punters. ![]() Then, HID burst onto the scene and we now had access to a light with great long-distance performance, while running cooler than halogen equivalents. For images and the full Unsealed 4X4 experience, read this in our online magazine.ĭriving lights… you need them, but how much do you know about them? For many years we had a choice of any light we wanted as long as it was a halogen. ![]() ![]() Following your treatment plan and routinely communicating with your mental health professional will help move you forward. Kerner: You also cover a couple of topics that feel very of the moment, which are online image-based evaluative voyeurism and deep fakes. We want our kids to be good people who care about others and take care of their friends. (So) we’ve also got to talk with our kids about not sharing those images. Those kids may not necessarily be sharing images to be abusive or coercive, but it’s illegal to take and share nude images of minors, even when it’s consensual. There’s also really striking data showing that 9% of 9- to 12-year-olds say they’ve forwarded another person’s nude or nearly nude image without permission. It can also involve getting pictures with consent, but then distributing them without consent, or threatening to do so - known as “sextortion.” Our research shows that around 5% of teens say they’ve experienced sextortion and many more have had their images shared. Herbenick: This is an umbrella term that includes aggressive, abusive or coercive acts that involve getting pictures, videos or digital images and then sharing them. Kerner: You also write about image-based sexual abuse, or so-called revenge porn. Whether or not they like it, a lot of people accept it as part of what sex is like today. ![]() But we found that most people said it was about being sexually exciting or adventurous or feeling like they’re “kinky.” So, even if they aren’t being pressured by a partner, they get this sense from what they see online that everyone’s doing these super-kinky things, and it’s just how sex is. Herbenick: When we started this research, I thought that maybe being choked was about enhancing arousal or orgasm. Kerner: Are teens doing this for pleasure? Or is it because they think everyone else is doing it? More often, we see young people experiencing recurrent headaches, neck bruising, neck swelling, and vocal changes from choking. It’s very rare, but people can and do sometimes die from being choked or strangled during sex. But it’s something that we’ve got to learn about, especially because there are risks to it. This is invisible to a lot of adults because we’re not using social media in ways that the algorithm serves up that kind of content. These early red flags predict a partner’s likelihood to become abusive, study finds But now we’re seeing that choking specifically, but other kinds of rough sex, too, is everywhere. This used to be considered a relatively rare practice. Choking is a form of strangulation: It involves placing one or both hands or a forearm or a ligature around the neck to restrict blood flow, airflow or both. My research has shown that close to 40% of women ages 18 to 29 report having been choked during sex. Herbenick: This was a huge motivation for me in writing this book. Kerner: One of the trends you discuss that I found surprising - and, as a parent, a bit triggering - was rough sex and even choking among teens. I’m hoping “Yes, Your Kid” can catch parents up on what sex is like today and support them becoming more comfortable around these difficult topics. My research really focuses on these changing sexual norms. The world has changed so much in terms of technology, internet access, social media platforms, and even the ways that teenagers and young adults are having sex. Part of what compelled me is having a lot of familiarity with many of the parenting books out there that deal with sexuality, but also realizing that we needed an updated version. What compelled you to explore the topic of teens and sex?ĭebby Herbenick: I’m a sex researcher and educator, but I’m also a mom. Ian Kerner: I consider you one of the country’s most credible sources of accurate scientific information when it comes to sexuality. This conversation has been edited and condensed for clarity. To give us some much-needed guidance, I sat down with Debby Herbenick, a researcher and professor at the Indiana University School of Public Health, whose new book, “ Yes, Your Kid: What Parents Need to Know About Today’s Teens and Sex,” was just published. Many kids won’t even tell their parents about their day or come out of their rooms, so how do we get them to open up about sex? As parents, we need to know how to initiate these difficult and daunting conversations, and we need to understand what today’s teen is up against. ![]() While it’s easy to blame social media and the internet for these unsettling trends, parents and schools also play a part. To inoculate against what teens may search for or stumble into online, they need to receive quality sex education at school and have non-shaming conversations at home. Nude photos: What we may have once viewed as “adult” topics are now commonplace in high school circles - and even among some younger kids, too.

Thus, young Charlotte is portrayed by British actor India Amarteifio, who has Ghanaian and German ancestry. Queen Charlotte, the latest Bridgerton instalment, hangs on a similar scrap of historical speculation: the theory that German-born Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz had African ancestry. “And why do some people need Cleopatra to be white? Her proximity to whiteness seems to give her value, and for some Egyptians it seems to really matter.” “Why shouldn’t Cleopatra be a melanated sister?” asked Tina Gharavi, the show’s director.
